Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

ERCP is a highly specialized procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions of the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts.

Diagnostic & Therapeutic: Used for clearing bile duct stones, placing stents for strictures (narrowing) due to tumors or inflammation, and draining pancreatic fluid collections.
Emergency Intervention: Essential for urgent relief of obstructive jaundice and cholangitis (bile duct infection), which are critical medical emergencies often managed in the ICU.

Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (EGI Endoscopy)

A standard procedure for visualizing the upper digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, and duodenum).

Diagnostic Scope: Identifying ulcers, inflammation (gastritis, esophagitis), H. Pylori infection, and malignancies.
Emergency Therapeutic Use: Crucial for immediate management of Acute Upper GI Bleeding (e.g., variceal banding, injection sclerotherapy, or clipping of bleeding ulcers) in critical patients.

Colonoscopy

A procedure to examine the entire large intestine (colon) and the rectum.

Screening and Diagnosis: Used for colorectal cancer screening, investigating chronic diarrhea, blood in stool, and diagnosing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
Therapeutic Intervention: Polypectomy (removal of polyps) to prevent cancer and control certain types of lower GI bleeding.

Bronchoscopy

A procedure to visualize the inside of the lungs’ airways (bronchi and bronchioles).

ICU/Pulmonary Support: Critical for critically ill patients to assess and clear airway obstructions (mucus plugs, foreign bodies), perform bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) for diagnostic samples, and assist in difficult intubations.
Diagnosis: Essential for diagnosing lung infections, tumors, and persistent cough.
